Newborn Clothing Is Not Fashionable; Safety Must Be A Top Priority.

1. Do not dry clean. Many commonly used dry cleaning agents are volatile chemicals that can irritate infants and young children with low tolerance, affecting their growth and development. Therefore, the standard stipulates that this method should not be used to clean products and explicitly requires that products be labeled with an image or text indicating "Do not dry clean."

2. Smoothness of buttons, zippers, and metal accessories.

To prevent injury to infants and young children while wearing clothing, the standard requires that all buttons, decorative buttons, zippers, and metal accessories on the product be free of burrs, sharp edges, and other defects, and should not deform, discolor, or rust after washing and ironing. Embroidered or hand-sewn decorations are not allowed to have sequins, granular beads, or sharp edges and points.

3. Safety of Design

Standards stipulate that drawstrings are not allowed on the necklines and hoods of infant and toddler clothing; the length of all exposed drawstrings on finished products must not exceed 14cm; the circumference of the neckline of a pullover should not be less than 52cm when unfolded. All of these measures are to prevent injury to infants and toddlers due to snagging, pulling, or dragging during use. There have been reports abroad of traffic accidents involving toddlers being caught in car doors due to clothing drawstrings.

4. Formaldehyde Treatment

Formaldehyde, also known as formalin, is used in medicine as a liquid for preserving human or organ specimens. Industrially, it is used as a cleaning agent, a raw material for plastic production, and a preservative. In the textile and apparel industry, formaldehyde is mainly found in dyeing auxiliaries and resin finishing agents, primarily used for coloring and fixing fibers and fabrics, and to improve wrinkle resistance and shrinkage resistance. Some wrinkle-free finishing processes for finished garments also use auxiliaries containing formaldehyde. Medical experts believe that formalin is a chronic poisoning drug. Textiles and clothing containing formalin gradually release free formaldehyde during wear, causing respiratory and skin inflammation through inhalation and skin contact, and also irritating the eyes. Long-term exposure to low doses of formalin can cause chronic respiratory diseases, menstrual disorders in women, pregnancy complications, reduced immunity in newborns, chromosomal abnormalities, and even nasopharyngeal carcinoma. High concentrations of formalin are toxic to the nervous system, immune system, and liver.

[Expert Reminder] Avoid buying brightly colored clothes. The main harmful substances in baby clothing fabrics are formaldehyde and dyes. Therefore, parents should prioritize all-cotton fabrics when purchasing baby clothes, such as ordinary pure cotton, natural colored cotton, and organic cotton products. Secondly, the colors and patterns should be as simple and elegant as possible. Brightly colored clothing generally has a higher formaldehyde content, while plain-colored clothing and children's clothing without prints have a lower formaldehyde content.
